Brna on Island of Korcula

Four kilometres south-west from the town of Smokvica, on the south of the island of Korčula the beatiful Bay of Brna is situated. In the 19th century, the Bay of Brna was used as the port from which the wines of Smokvica were exported to the Adriatic and Mediterranean ports and that was the main reason of settlement in the respective area. A beautiful and well-protected location enabled the town of fishermen to develop into a tourist destination, and so now we have hotel and few good restaurants and other tourist objects.

The peninsula Mali Zaglav, separates the Bay of Brna from the sand bay of Istruga. Istruga is famous for the natural rarity (medical mud) and also has sport recreational centre with two tennis courts, a boce ball field, ping pong tables and a beach volleyball playing area.

Smokvica, the administrative center of Brna is situated four kilometers from Brna. Smokvica is known for its excellent white wine, autochthon Posip and Rukatac. The local church Our Lady of Kandalora with its lodge dominates the settlement of Smokvica. Kumpanjija the knight war dance with swords is also very well known. It represents the defense of the domestic population from various conquerors during the turbulent history if the island. In time of the tourist season Kumpanjija and other folklore dances are played regularly.

We would like to point out that there is a possibility of a field trip to island of Lastovo, where you can experience a one working day of a traditional fisherman, visit Lastovo and enjoy the fish that is caught during the day . We would also recommend a visit to a private wine-cellar museum where you can try various wines and mead and other autochthon products, as to examine the collection of antique tools which were used in the vine-making process throughout the centuries in these parts.
